MTN Rwandacell Plc, commonly referred to as MTN Rwanda, is the largest telecommunications company in Rwanda, with an estimated 7 million subscribers, accounting for 62 percent market share, as of 30 July 2023.[1]
History
MTN Rwanda was established in 1998 during the reconstruction of the Rwanda economy in the aftermath of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.[2]
It is a subsidiary of MTN Group, a multinational telecommunications group connecting about 232 million people in 22 countries across Africa and the Middle East, as of 2016.[3]
In May 2021, the shares of stock of MTN Rwanda were listed on the Rwanda Stock Exchange.[4]
