Dictador is a Colombian rum brand owned by Polish businessman Mariusz Jawoszek. The brand is known for promoting art, Colombian culture, and traditional distillation methods, as well as marketing a rebellious, progressive, and luxury lifestyle. One of their bottles sells for over a million dollars,[1] and the brand advertises itself as "a leader in investment-grade rum".[2] Experts consider it a non-distilling producer,[3] or a ghost distillery,[4] as they procure their rum from other distilleries.
Origin of the name
The company claims that the rum is named after Severo Arango y Ferro, who in the 1700s oversaw trade between Spain and the Republic of New Granada. His commanding demeanor earned him the nickname "El Dictador". However, this figure appears to only exist in Dictador marketing materials after 2010.[5]
