Cetuximab, sold under the brand name Erbitux, is an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitor medication used for the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer and head and neck cancer.[1] Cetuximab is a chimeric (mouse/human) monoclonal antibody given by intravenous infusion.[1]
Cetuximab was approved for medical use in the United States in 2004.[3]
Medical uses
In the US, cetuximab is indicated for the treatment of head and neck cancer and colorectal cancer.[1]
In the EU, cetuximab is indicated for the treatment of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-expressing, RAS wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer and for the treatment of squamous cell cancer of the head and neck.
